This Trimester is the start of something new.. New Website, New Presence, New Ideas and New DAW....
I have been in a somewhat state of 'lul' the past few trimesters, uploading blogs to a website i was not proud of, creating music that was uninspired, not being as active as I could within university. I am trying to fix all those issues this Trimester around and to do so, I have a few fun little plans.
1. New Website:
I have created a new website (the one you are on right now!) to feature all my blogs, work for portfolio, contact details and information about myself. I hope that this change will allow me to create something that is both industry ready and to my personal standard. Giving me inspiration to push my content further with regular updates and quality of work.
2. New ideas:
I have a few Ideas up my sleeves to get the ball rolling this trimester, one of them I am covering in topic 3 below, but the rest I will mention here. A 4 track dynamic EP; I am going to be making a short 4 track EP based around incredibly dynamic pieces of music for the intention of focusing on production. I will be pushing myself to create interesting new soundscapes, pushing my mixing capabilities, developing better sound design and developing my mastering capabilities. This 4 track EP will not be my major project thus giving myself time to research and understand my direction. I will be making a blog going more in-depth with this idea further down the line.
I am also working with Callum Hicks to record, mix and master a 3-5 track EP for a client. Details are still in the works so I wont be giving too much away about the project but its safe to say we are both incredibly excited about the opportunity we have to work on this project.
My final project in the works is with James Reynolds. We will be embarking on a difficult task to produce, record, mix and master Adian Carrols Band. I know, producing our lecturers band might sound like a risky idea but boy do I love the challenge. I have a lot of faith in James as I see him as one of the most capable engineers in our class, thus I couldn't be more excited for a project. Once again, there will be more detail coming in later blogs as there is more planning still involved.
3. New DAW:
This has been a long time in the making. It all started last Trimester, where day two, I produced an entire song on Pro-Tools. I loved it, something about the difficulty of creating something on there was inspiring. There was so much power behind the DAW that I never realized, I absolutely love Ableton but this Trimester Im trying something new. I will be working completely in Pro-Tools, with a few exceptions. I want to create all my songs within Pro-Tools, arranging, mixing, processing, etc. I have a few reservations though, I believe I will still be using Ableton for some sound design or to work with my midi controllers, etc. But I am still unsure if I should allow myself to use Ableton.. I almost despise the MIDI capabilities of Pro-Tools but hopefully with some exploration I can find some love for it, the way I did with its sample manipulation.
To Conclude:
Excitement, pure excitement. That is all I feel (apart from the usual stress and pressure). My portfolio is taking shape, my presence adjusted, Idea's flowing and workflow 'a changin'. I have one song still in the works in Ableton but i will update you guys on how hat is going and whether or not I will more it into Pro-Tools or not.
